Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Qin Gang's Remarks on the Comments of French Officials on Tibet
2008-03-26

Q: French Foreign Minister Kouchner said on March 25 that the Chinese Government's "suppression"  against Tibet was intolerable. French State Secretary Yade of foreign affairs and human rights said that she would not hesitate to meet with Dalai if he visited France. How do you comment on that?

A: The Lhasa incident is a separatist act of violence carefully planned and deliberately provoked by the Dalai clique. The Chinese Government took measures according to law and has restored social stability in Lhasa and other areas. Any country upholding objectiveness and justice will understand and support the lawful and necessary measures taken by China to safeguard social stability and protect the safety of its people and their properties. In fact, governments of over 100 countries have expressed their righteous position. It is sufficient to prove that the international community stands by us rather than the Dalai clique and the violent forces.

The Lhasa incident proves again that Dalai is not purely a religious figure, but a political exile bent on activities aimed at splitting China, undermining national stability and social stability under the disguise of religion and the banner of peace. The Chinese Government resolutely opposes his separatist activities in other countries in whatever name and his official contact of whatever form with any other country.
